A high level overview of the tools and processes I use to create and maintain this site.
This site is the latest incarnation of a design and information architecture I've been iterating on since I began my consulting practice in 2016. This version represents a shift from a primarily “marketing” purpose to more expressive surface for sharing the ideas, pursuits, and interests that shape my engagement with digital information design as a profession.
Tools & Technologies
- Sanity content operations platform for content structure, content production, and image management
- Sanity Taxonomy Manager for SKOS compliant taxonomy authoring and management
- Astro web framework for static generation of the website front end, JSON-LD, RSS feeds, and a Sanity Visual Editing React front end for live previews
- GitHub actions for static site build and deploy
- Nginx server (with a smidge of PHP for forms) running on Digital Ocean
- Minisearch for lightweight and taxonomy integrated full text search
- Plausible analytics for lightweight and GDPR compliant privacy-minded traffic insights
Interface Design
- Figma for design system token and role authoring, component composition, and responsive page layout design
- Body copy is set in Noto Serif and headers and navigation are set in Lato
- Photography is predominantly sourced from appropriately licensed images on Unsplash. To the best of my knowledge, no LLM-generated images are used on this site.
LLM Use
Color, type, layout, and interaction decisions are mine alone, driven largely by eyeballs-on-screen design work in Figma. I do use Claude Code to accelerate and level up my front end development (Typescript and I are in an "it's complicated" relationship) and steer me clear of the most egregious errors in the set-up and care and feeding of an Nginx server.
